Welcome to the May issue of The Inlander! It’s hard to believe it’s spring (other than Arizona and Florida is there anywhere in the country that’s warm and experiencing a true spring?), but that means we’re in the advanced planning stages for two major events -- the upcoming Inland Summer Board Meeting and the 133rd Annual Meeting in Chicago. More to come later about both.
Mission One: Revenue. Digital, Print, Mobile & More: We have scheduled an exciting and all-encompassing revenue conference for June 19-21 in Atlanta hosted by The Atlanta Journal Constitution (thanks to Inland board director Amy Glennon). The program will address all sources of revenue opportunities…print, digital, mobile, events, etc. An extremely timely and important topic and program for all Inland members, so sign up today! I look forward to seeing everyone in June in Atlanta!
Jason Taylor of Gatehouse Joins the board. We look forward to working with Jason to make Inland even more valuable to its members. As we noted in the April Inlander, Gatehouse has added all its daily and non-daily publications to Inland membership. Jason is one of the busiest execs in the business with more titles than most of us including: President of GateHouse Media’s Western U.S. Publishing Operations, President of GateHouse Live and Virtual Events and President, and Publisher of the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Jason, we appreciate your involvement with Inland and welcome you to the board.
Summer Board Meeting: The Inland board will convene for its annual summer meeting June 4-6 in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. The board uses this meeting to address long-range strategic issues facing the organization. Topics to be discussed include, membership, programming, strategic alliance opportunities, and financial and fiduciary matters. I’ll have more to share about the meeting in my next column of The Inlander.
Membership: Chair Cory Bollinger and his Membership Committee remain very active with several “targeted” member recruitment efforts currently underway. In addition, the Membership Committee is exploring a numerous efforts and initiatives to better engage members, orient new board members and creating the most valuable Inland member experience possible!

The 133rd Inland Annual Meeting, “Real Revenue, Real Newspaper, Real Success”: The Inland Annual Meeting also returns to Chicago September 9-11 to the JW Marriott.
Executive Voices 2.0: The Conversation Continues: Executive Voices will be held once again in Chicago December 4-5 at the Willis Tower, again hosted by our friends at Seyfarth Shaw LLP. This is a limited seating event that is an absolute must-attend!

I would like to announce two staff changes at Inland. First, we say goodbye to long-time Inland staffer, Karla Zander, Inland’s manager of research and member services. Karla has accepted a position with another Chicago non-profit. Although she will continue to work to complete some ongoing projects for a limited time, we wish Karla much success in her new role and appreciate her many years of service.
We also have a new staffer at Inland. Carley Lintz has joined the staff as programming and membership coordinator to work alongside Patty Slusher. Carley is a 2015 Northwestern graduate and worked for Content That Works prior to joining Inland. Welcome aboard Carley!
